Who do you follow?
… was the topic of the speech I gave to the VIC Toastmasters club today. I’ve just uploaded my trial version which I recorded at home before the meeting to my Ozlilly YouTube channel here.
The actual speech turned out a bit differently and will also be posted. The feedback I received was quite interesting. That’s what I love about Toastmasters. Everybody gives their own personal opionion. You are free to take it or leave it. You can always learn something.
Leaning by doing
I was convinced I need to do something to support the club today. When I saw that ten guests had registered to attend and not one of the members had registered to give a speech, I thought, okay, here is my call. After a couple of medical appointments last week and missing the contests and conference meetings I figured it was time to show up again. I have paid my dues after all, which have gone up, even for our privileged UN club.
Signs of the Times
What are the signs of the times? Silke Schaefer, my favourite astrologist, has warned that things will continue to race ahead. And sure enough, I follow my intuition to attend two meetings on this day and then feel “left behind” next day when this post is still waiting to be completed. So, what to do? Forget it and start again? Discard completely? No, here I am, continuing the thoughts of the day and racing ahead in all directions to capture the other thoughts racing through my mind.
Lesson Learned?
Better to take just tiny steps every day than wait till you have a mountain to move. Better done than perfect. Don’t worry about what you can’t do, just do what you can. Post again tomorrow.
