The little voice inside says, “Who cares what you think, say and do?” Then why do I have this blog?
I am committed to making a difference, being a passionate world changer, learning by doing. I have learned that when I brave a step outside my comfort zone, I can indeed motivate others to Dare to dream bigger and start those projects that just need initiation.
This is to share about what happens at the VIC in summer. All you parents have gone off on holiday with your school-age children. It is the last day of school and you want to get away as quickly as possible. Yet the VIC Staff party took place today. The searing summer heat earlier this week took a pause. The drinks were ordered. The tables set up. Then at 3:50pm after thank yous to security and all those involved in the preparations and organization, an IAEA Staff council representative made a brief statement. This year the other VIC based organizations were also invited to contribute. So, another, very brief speech. The speakers were not really loud. It was not the deafening typical rock concert amplification. It was the correct, health conscious level, suitably adjusted for the staff of the UN Vienna based organizations and their families and friends. I can imagine it was quite fun later in the evening after the crowd at Gate One finally managed to make their way in. It was probably also exciting to see the coloured lights over the reflection pond of the plaza in the dusk. In any case, after going out to greet my son who waved to me from the back of a big crowd of visitors and staff, waiting to register to obtain entry to this open event at the UN in Vienna, we decided to head off home, to the rented house in the countryside where we then both took a swim in our local almost private swimming pool.
The VIC Staff Party? Initiated by the IAEA Staff Association about five years ago to promote social interaction, to celebrate the achievements of the past year and to listen to the wonderful musical talent of our fellow staff members from all over the world. This year there was quite a Latin and Indian focus.
Last year the IAEA also invited the other Vienna Based Organizations to participate. This year they even contributed. So it has become an opportunity for anybody connected to the UN in Vienna to share with others, party, enjoy the music, bring their kids, socialize, network and begin the summer on a good note. Usually the party is at the beginning of June. This year it was later because of Ramadan to allow our Islamic members and friends to also participate fully.
