Ozlilly's musings...

We got up early despite our last few days of sleeping in due to jet lag after a week in Australia

I woke up just before the alarm went off and we packed our bags and went to the kitchen. Mum had made crumpets and coffee. We gladly partook and then took the car to George’s who then drove us to the airport. We said goodbye as he prepared to go to the block to celebrate Ambrose’s birthday. We checked in our luggage and were complimented for the small amount. Then we had to go back again with the trecking sticks which we had been allowed to take on board from Vienna and Dubai, but in Australia were now considered weapons grade. So after wrapping them up and sending them into the bowels of the plane, we went to have another cup of coffee and test the Melbourne Airport WiFi. Not very successful. After three hours in the air, and lots of photos by Josef with his new birthday camera, we arrived in Cairns where a rental car was waiting for us. After a one hour drive along the beautiful Australian coast, empty sandy beaches, we arrived at Port Douglas which will be our home base until next Sunday.

Hi Lily,
Your trip to northern Australia is making me relive my recent journey also to Cairns, with my husband George and 3 children, in July 2013. It was a sublime and sometimes euphoric experience for me after all these years. I hope you and your family have a wonderful experience. It is a gift from God!
