Dear Facebook, Today you want to celebrate 9 years of my membership on Facebook? Date: 21 January nine years ago.

During that time you abolished the group I created and created pages instead, sending me scuttling through all your various settings looking to try to find a way to retrieve all my stored information. Then you started telling everybody everything about me, even the stuff I wanted to keep discrete. To the point that nearly all my children have left FB. I am still here. One time I contemplated leaving was shortly before I discovered a long lost friend who I had been hoping to find, in another part of the world, so I stayed on. But you kept changing. You added more and more ads, not only on the sides but in the posts, like my friends posts. You told me that my friends liked your money-making ads. I liked FB because it was free and a fascinating networking tool, in this jet-setting age. Now it is also entertaining, though the games of figuring out what’s Fake News and what’s true, is not funny any more. I’m also tired of trying to keep up with all the modern tekkie settings, which your young inventors in Silicone Valley probably have to change everyday to earn their bread and butter, or sushi and rice. I’m starting to feel like some of my friends who I thought were old-fashioned, when they didn’t join FB, or were suspicious of posting anything about themselves. I’m also scared of becoming like some of my retired friends who seem to do nothing but post and share stuff they find on FB. I don’t want to play farming games on FB. I don’t want to read quotes on FB I could find somewhere else in the internet. I want to network with friends around the world. I started my blog to share my own story and photos when the stories of FB owning all my posted photos started circulating. Now I would like to know that it is safe to use FB, to share photos with friends and family. I know that it all depends on who is using FB and not only who made and makes it. So Mark Zuckerberg now believes in God? Will he be able to create an environment for good and truth and beauty to survive and thrive? That’s what I’m interested in. And I really can’t cope with constant changes in settings and layout and conditions. I’m starting to feel like my 88 year old mother who doesn’t know how to play music on the CD player she got from her kids 20 years ago. Because I can’t find the settings to hide the ads. Oh, there aren’t any?
