Koala

We had a chat with our hosts this morning and decided to book the reef trip for Friday.

It has been choppy and wet and hopefully Friday will be a bit calmer and suitable for a reef tour. We thought of going on the Kuranda railway and the skyrail but it rained so much and when we got to Kuranda it was cloudy and wet, so we went to the butterfly sanctuary.

After that we went to the place where Josef could cuddle a koala and have his photo taken. We also saw fresh water crocodiles, snakes, gliders, wallabies and dragon lizards. The markets in the town were thriving and there were aborigines playing the didgeridoo on the street. We decided to have lunch and then did the tours. Afterwards, when we wanted to have a cup of coffee, at three-thirty in the afternoon, everything was closing and by four, all the shutters were down and it was like a ghost town. Eventually we drove to Smithton and had coffee at the shopping centre, which then closed at five-thirty. We drove back to Port Douglas, arriving after dark and retreated into the apartment before going back out for a walk to Coles before closing time at nine and I got a Gaytime icecream and some cheese twisties.
