Ozlilly's musings...

So we went to the circus. Josef got free tickets from work. At half-time they told us we could go see their animals

and pet them, touch them and feed them. They have 35 animals and have been given an award of some sort for their handling. So all okay in terms of animal welfare. They were all very beautiful. Black, white and brown horses with beautiful shiny coats. Lovely dogs with big smiles on their faces as they danced around and did their tricks, some seemingly, NOT doing their tricks. All very entertaining and funny. The human stunts were also very good. They said we can take photos. But not to use flash. I haven’t been to the circus since we lived in Linz and the kids were little. In those days they still had elephants and Godwin got a ride on the elephant. Would have to look for that photo.
I didn’t go to the petting zoo. We lined up with the rest and saw the lady collecting entry. Yes of course, you have to pay entry for everything these days. And they have to feed the animals. I bought cornetto for three euros, so paid one euro extra for each of us. Then I also got a drink, overpriced. Yes, they have to survive. I was not with the kids. I would have gone to see the animals. But I felt like they misrepresented it and tricked people into paying the six euros extra just to see the animals. Some kids got to ride the horses and donkeys in the circus ring. I think they also paid. All looks great, but my Aussie spirit wants fairness and transparency. If you tell me I can see the animals and pet and feed them, sure, I’d love to do that. But don’t come then and demand payment when most people would be too embarrassed to turn back at the entrance. I wasn’t. That’s when I went to buy my overpriced drink.
It was a great night at the circus.
I loved the hamster wheel the most. Two guys running around on two rotating rings, sea-saw style, spinning simply with the energy of their motion. Then we took a photo with the moderating clown. He is French. The circus is like music and Unification Church and United Nations. They introduced their stars from the Czech Republic, from Slovenia, Croatia, Switzerland, Italy and France. Thought I’d post my photos on FaceBook, do some free advertising for them. Haven’t been to the circus since the kids were small. Pity they forbade the video. I’ll have to save that for a private screening.
