Sec-Gen WFWPI-EU

Dear Elisabeth,

You were behind all the activities of the Women’s Federation in Europe and Austria for the past decades. You gave everything, and now even your life. This is how I will remember you:

Elisabeth Riedl, Secretary General WFWPI-Europe, Bratislava 2016

Dear Elisabeth,

I still can’t believe it! It was a beautiful ceremony on Good Friday and I pray for your successful transition to your new mission in the spiritual world.

Here I would like to thank you for inviting me to participate at the UN activities with Women’s Federation for World Peace in Vienna. It must have been early 2001 or 2002, just after you moved to Salzburg from Germany. I did not know you, but we sat beside each other at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Oestereichische Frauenfoederation fuer Weltfrieden (OEFF), WFWP-Austria. I was surprised by your outspokenness as I was a founding member of this organization and you were a stranger and advising us all at what we should be doing. After the reports from the sisters representing WFWP at the UN in Vienna as NGO representatives, I expressed my interest in the UN. It was you who invited me to attend and initiated my ultimate entry to the UN. Together we attended many meetings and conferences. I also became an NGO Representative for WFWPI to the United Nations in Vienna. In 2003 I could attend the Annual WFWPI meeting in New York and the United Nations Headquarters. In 2004 we organized the International AGM for WFWPI in Austria and the UN in Vienna. Then in 2007 you were key when I was selected to give the NGO address to the CTBTO Conference at the Hofburg. Together we initiated WFWP participation in Vienna with the Committee on the Status of Women. During that time I also began attending the Drugs Committee meetings, the Vienna Alliance on Criminal Justice and the Space Committee.  I became secretary of the Drugs Committee and helped organize the “Beyond 2008” Conference, which put NGOs in the front seats and UN Officials in the back as invited guests. Then a year later, UPF held an NGO conference in that very same conference room and I could give the address on the Bridge of Peace on behalf of WFWPI. Then I finally got a job at the IAEA and resigned from my NGO activities for the WFWP to focus on representing TP UN from within the UN system.  We continued to meet, nearly every time you came to the UN. I rapturously, mostly passively, observed the WFWP activities at the UN take on new heights. I thank you for your moving example, your courage and your tireless energy in getting the job done and never giving up.
